Dear Litchfield Hills KiDSMARATHON Mentor-Coaches,
It is with much appreciation and thanks to all the Litchfield KiDSMARATHON Mentor-Coaches who have volunteered their time and energy to help the kids in the KiDSMARATHON PIONEER program. The kids who have made this commitment to be the pioneers of this program in Litchfield are very special, those who have decided they want to be the first to experience the running of the marathon distance in training and then that last effort to complete the KiDSMARATHON program on Litchfield Hills Road Race Day.
During the next seven weeks, the kids just want support, encouragement, motivation and inspiration and to know that someone is looking out for them.
The Mentor Coaches are a very important link to these kids. I believe they enjoyed my school visit and enjoyed hearing from an Olympian and World Champion Athlete. But they really want to connect with someone just a little older, but within reach of being “Real" to them. They really do see you as their heroes' and role models, believable and someone they can reach out and touch.
During the next few weeks, I'll get some more information and ideas to you. It is also important for me to hear from you, and please take time to connect with each other, share stories and help where you can. Give me ideas if you feel that something can be improved, and please share your thoughts and feelings as you work with the kids.
Good Luck to you and, again, my sincere thanks for taking on this position, a role that is essential to young people as they shape their future knowledge and physical development. Yes, I was a young person once, and I had such wonderful mentors and coaches who helped to shape the person I am today.
Your role is a huge factor in making this program really work.
With Best Wishes,
