Women's Softball League Scholarship
New Scholarship Available to Local Female Athlete
The Litchfield Women's Softball League is pleased to announce it will be offering a $250 scholarship to a Litchfield High School graduating senior female athlete in recognition of her leadership, academics and athletics for the purpose of encouraging her into fields of higher education.

Jennifer Paul, co-founder and a commissioner of the league, said, “We feel very strongly that we have an opportunity to give something back to the young women in our community.  We are fortunate, through the generosity of our sponsors and players, to be able to do so after only one full season under our belts.”  The Litchfield's Women's Softball League, which was initiated in 2007, generated funds through team sponsorship fees and a fundraising concession during the one-day tournament held last summer.

Last season the Women's Softball League had 5 teams and this year surpassed this benchmark with 6 teams joining the league. Returning team sponsors include Litchfield's The Village Restaurant, Marrin Santore Realty, Murphy's Pharmacy/Village Wine Cellar, and Bantam's Stor-It-All, and they are joined by league newcomers Sportsmen's of Litchfield and player-sponsored Diamond Girls of Torrington.  The season begins on May 18 and all games will be played at Community Field on Sunday afternoons.

Scholarship applications are available in the Litchfield High School Guidance Counselor's office and need to be postmarked no later than June 2 to be eligible.  The scholarship recipient will be announced at a ceremony on June 15th prior to league play at Community Field.
